Iced Ginger Lemon Turmeric Tea

With the world reopening after COVID lockdowns, it seems as though most of us are out and about doing pretty much every single vice that we’ve been sheltered away from for the past year.

As Mother Monster has instructed us to do: “No sleep, bus, club, another club, another club, another club, plane, next place, no sleep!”

This Iced Ginger Turmeric Lemon Tea is perfect for those hot summer mornings that start with some sweat (hungover sweats and heat sweats alike). It’s sweet, spiced, and has the medicinal properties that will reset your week (and your body).

Almost a full hand of ginger is used which is necessary to help with our blood pressure, immune function, and kick our body into high gear. The inclusion of lemon brightens our day while mellowing out the turmeric (but not it’s anti-inflammatory properties). Honey (preferably raw, unfiltered, and organic honey if you have access to it as it can be pricer than processed honey) sweetens this drink, like any iced tea should while also helping to improve our immune function because we’re still in a world with COVID hopping around.

Pop your favorite tea bags in here, place it in the fridge, and drink up!

P.S. you can keep adding water and honey to this drink until the ginger and tea bags stop releasing their punch.

Iced Ginger Lemon Turmeric Tea

Yields: 4-6 servings

Time: 10 minute (+ chill time overnight)

INGREDIENTS

  • 7 cups of water

  • 4 lemons, juiced

  • 3 tablespoons minced ginger

  • 1/2 tablespoon turmeric

  • pinch of black pepper

  • 5-6 tablespoons honey

  • 20 mint leaves

  • 4-5 herbal tea bags (I love the Trader Joe’s “Detox Herbal Tea Bags”

DIRECTIONS

  1. Begin by rinsing all of your produce well and drying them. Peel your ginger and roll your lemons (to help the juices flow).

  2. In a small container, add 4-6 tablespoons of honey, depending on how sweet you’d like your tea. I always prefer to use organic raw and unfiltered honey because the medicinal properties that honey is known to have are more prominent in this kind of honey. Although, any honey one has easy access to works perfectly fine. Add equal amounts of water to honey (4 tablespoons of honey to 4 tablespoons of water). Shake until combined and set aside.

  3. To a large pitcher, add the minced ginger, juice of 4 lemons, turmeric, and pepper. Add the honey syrup, mint leaves, and water. Stir to combine.

  4. Lastly, before placing the pitcher in the fridge overnight (or for 1-2 hours to chill), add 4-5 bags/sachets of your favorite herbal tea. Place in the fridge to chill and strengthen.

  5. Pour over ice.

  6. Dive in!
